Thanksgiving Weekend

BVTT '10 - AKA "B" vs Turkey Triathlon 2010

For Thanksgiving this year we met up with Bri and Andy in Sunny St. George. We experienced the joy of Black Friday shopping, and found a deal on these scooters. Dad decided to buy one for each of the kids to use in our first bi-annual "B" vs. Turkey Triathlon. For some of us, it ended up only being a duathlon, because we don't all have bikes, and the pool was packed.
Pre-race family photo

The first leg consisted of riding the scooters, and let me tell you, scooting is hard! My legs were burning for sure! There was a bit of a hill, so going up was tough, but coming down was pretty fun. Andy got going so fast that he melted his back tire. Sweet.
The second leg was running, my favorite! I don't remember how long we went, but it was nice to be able to run outside, and enjoy the beautiful scenery.
The third leg was a bike ride, for those that were interested/had bikes to ride. Apparently they had a lot of fun on that leg of the race too.

We had a great time eating, playing games, and relaxing together. It was great seeing Dane and Campbell play with toys that my siblings and I used to play with when we were little. I love my family, and am so grateful that we are close. I hope that we will always have strong friendships, and remember how important family is.

Thanks Mom and Dad for a great weekend!

Goodbye Grandpa

Harold LeRoy B.

1924 ~ 2009

Harold LeRoy B. passed away on August 26, 2009, at the Heritage Care Center in American Fork, Utah. Harold was born on July 5, 1924, in Cedar City, Utah, to Norman and Martha Irene B. He married May Dalton on July 19, 1942. Less than a year later, and 3 months before his first son, Mike, was to be born, Harold was serving his country in the United States Army. After training at Fort Sill, Oklahoma and Fort Leonard Wood, Missouri, he was assigned to an Artillery Unit in the Philippines. Harold received numerous decorations for his service before being discharged in 1946, following his release from the Army Hospital in Manila.

In the early 1950s, Harold and May moved to Provo, Utah, where they raised their young family. Harold spent most of his professional life working in the insurance industry and in real estate, including serving for many years as the State Manager for Combined Insurance Company in Utah and Nevada. Harold also served in many positions in The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, and with local service groups and organizations in the area. Everywhere he served was better when he left than when he started. On August 21, 1979, Harold and May were sealed to each other in the Salt Lake Temple. Following May's death in 1980, Harold met Sandra Kay Fischer, and they were married in the Salt Lake Temple.

Sandy survives him after 29 years of marriage. Harold also is survived by all of his children, Michael L., Gold Coast, Australia; Larry D. (Linda), Woodland Hills, Utah; Myrna (Doug) Livingston, Provo, Utah; Gregory N. (Nancy), Bountiful, Utah; and Bradley M. (Trudy), Payson, Utah, as well 18 grandchildren and many great grandchildren. He also is survived by 3 brothers Ross, Ken and Elmer and 1 sister Velma Halls, and was preceded in death by 2 brothers Chett and Oscar, and 1 sister Viola.

Our love and thanks to all who have been part of Harold's life, and the lives of his family.

After many years of sickness, Grandpa was called home this week. Such an amazing man. Now he can shine again. His brain and body can finally keep up again with his unstoppable spirit. He's with Grandma May again, and I know he is happy. It's always sad to loose someone you love, even when you know it is for the best. I am SO grateful for the gospel, and the knowledge I have that families really can be together forever. I will see my Grandpa B again.

Grandpa B

About a month ago, Dane and I headed down to Provo with my mom to visit McCall. On our way home, we stopped by to visit my Grandpa who lives in a nursing care facility. I really hate seeing him in that place, it just makes me sad. But that's besides the point. He has suffered from Alzheimers for many years now, and is definitely on the down hill side of things. It's sooo hard to see. But, I wanted him to meet Dane, so we made the visit.

I'm glad Dane got to meet his only living great-grandpa. He's been a wonderful grandpa to me, and I know that I'll have that same grandpa again someday.

Grandpa, I love you!
