I have decided that I really enjoy running. I've never hated it--playing midfield in soccer for so many years cured me of that--but I really really enjoy it. I did my first half marathon last Saturday. I had convinced Brock, Bri, Andy, Brooke, and Andy (nope, not a typo) earlier this year to run it with me because I needed some incentive to get back to any sort of shape but round. They all agreed that it should be fun (or maybe not really fun, but they all agreed).I was the only one who trained. At all.
Brooke and Andy opted out. Andy because he conveniently forgot when it was and scheduled a trip home to visit his family in CA. Brooke because she has not been able to shake this nasty cold that she's had for a month or so. So that left the four of us: Me, Brock, Bri and Andy.
We had to be up in Ogden before 5:00 am (no one should ever have to wake up at 3:15 in the morning before running 13.1 miles) so that we could get to the shuttle to take us to Eden where we would wait for 1.5 hours huddled around fire barrels. Makes total sense to me that we would have to be there that far in advance...ummmm...
It was a gorgeous race down Ogden canyon. Beautiful weather, and beautiful scenery. My goal when I started this whole thing, was to run the whole thing without walking. I was ultra disappointed when I HAD to stop about mile 7 for an absolutely mandatory potty break. I tried to convince myself that I could make it, but turns out the results of not stopping could have been catastrophic. Unfortunately for my time, there were several other people suffering from the same dilemma, and it took about 15 mins off my time. Super disappointing. But I did manage to run the whole thing, and at least now I have a starting point to improve upon.
The sickest part of the whole thing, is that neither Andy nor Brock ran a combined total of more than 10 miles before running the race, and both of them ran the whole thing and finished minutes over 2 hrs. Sick. And frustrating. The only consolation I take, is that the next day they were completely immobile, and I felt great!
So, I'm sold! I am looking forward to running my next one, and killing my time!
Who's with me???

NOT US! Just kidding :) We are so proud of you!
You are amazing! I am so glad that you finished strong! You are definitely an inspiration to me....I ran a whole mile this morning and felt like I was going to DIE, but I didn't stop! Cute pictures too! I don't know if I am ready for a 1/2 marathon...(I don't LOVE running or think I will EVER!!!!), but maybe I could find a 5K and you could run with me to keep me going! Love you!
Congrats! My mom was there at the marathon too! I bet that it is an awesome feeling when you cross the finish line! You do look great by the way!
Wow, way to go you guys!! That is way awesome!! Sure miss you both.
Congrats! That is so awesome! What a huge accomplishment. I really do want to do it. I finished the boot camp thing and now need some new motivation. I went running/walking tonight and totally biffed it. I am hoping it is not a sign.
Well, I'm not with you. But I'm very impressed by you!! Way to go! And you ran by my parents' house which is super cool. Did you think of them when you were up in the beautiful land of heaven?
Congrats! I am all about the half-marathon...it is a great motivator to stay in shape. And good-on-you for convincing Brock to run it...Geoff will not budge on this issue because "running is boring."
Yea for you guys! I think that is amazing I am starting to get into it but I am starting with a 5k first, pathetic I know! That does make me sick that they didn't train!
I'm with you! Maybe... we'll see how my knees hold up! When's the next one?
Wow LIndsey, congrats.
Don't you hate that boys THINK they are Superman, AND THEN act like it:) Topher is the exact same way.
Potty breaks are more important then crossing the line 15 minutes earlier, TRUST ME!!!
seriously. i love your new main pic. dane has such lindsay cheeks and brock everything else.
Isn't it the greatest feeling?!!! I absolutely the love the feeling after you finish a race.... you can't beat it!! I totally know how you feel about having to wait in the freezing cold for hours until the race starts. I ran the Moab 1/2 last year and it was totally the same. The best part was that they had hot chocolate there to warm you up.... I'm sorry, but who wants to drink a big glass of hot chocolate before a big race.... Can we say major sideache???? Anyways, congrats!!! I will have to get myself back into the racing mode next year once this small child is no longer inside me:) Congrats again!!!!
